Two proven techniques
Osteotome or Caldwell-Luc — the right approach for you
There are two ways we can reshape the sinus and add bone. Your CBCT scan tells us which is right for you — an internal osteotome approach for smaller additions, or an external Caldwell-Luc (lateral window) approach when more bone is needed.
Osteotome (internal) approach
Used when only a small amount of bone is needed. Done at the same time as your implant placement — a metal instrument called an osteotome gently taps the sinus shell upwards and the space is filled with bone before the implant is placed.
Caldwell-Luc (lateral window) approach
Used when substantial extra bone is needed. A small window is made in the bone next to the sinus, the lower sinus shell is lifted, and bone substitute material is placed in the space. The area is closed with sutures and heals for at least six months before implants are placed.
