Dental Implants · Shepperton
Missing or broken tooth? A single tooth implant is the most natural, permanent way to restore it. At Confident Smile in Shepperton, we place a titanium implant into the jawbone to work exactly like a real tooth root — no drilling of neighbouring teeth.

A permanent fix, not a compromise
If you're looking for a single tooth implant, Confident Smile Dental Practice in Shepperton can help. A single tooth implant is the best solution to fix a missing or broken tooth permanently — a small titanium post is inserted into the jawbone to function as your replacement tooth root.
Dental implants are small rod-like posts that act as a base for replacement teeth. The implant screw fits into the bone and has a clip (abutment) that a custom porcelain crown fits onto. Titanium is used because it has no ill effect on the body and bonds readily with new bone, which penetrates its surface. Look after them well, and your implant should last a lifetime.
A titanium post fuses with your jawbone to act like a real root.
Unlike a bridge, we don't drill down the healthy teeth either side.
Well cared for, a single implant can last a lifetime.

The Process
The tooth replacement process is thorough — designed to give the implant the best possible foundation. Every stage is explained clearly before we begin.
We check bone integrity, gum health and the size of the socket to plan your implant safely.
The failing tooth is removed and the socket cleaned so it's free from infection and debris.
A titanium fixture is placed into the jawbone — often on the same day as extraction (immediate placement).
Over about 2–3 months the implant bonds with the bone. Grafting extends healing if needed.
Once the bond is strong, a custom porcelain crown is fitted to the abutment — your new tooth.
Your options explained
The implant is placed at the same time as the failing tooth is extracted — often the most efficient option. The titanium fixture then heals under the gum for around three months (longer if grafting or tissue reconstruction is needed) before the crown is fitted.
If enough stability is achieved during surgery, we can sometimes attach a temporary tooth to the implant straight away. Osseointegration still takes 2–3 months and biting pressure is kept light during that time — your final porcelain crown goes on once the bond is complete.
If your tooth was removed some time ago, the same process applies. Your dentist in Shepperton assesses the risk factors and whether grafting is needed. In many cases an immediate crown can be fitted with the new implant.
Bone & gum grafting
A bone or gum graft may be necessary when other factors could affect the outcome of your implant. If the outer aspect of the bone socket is fragile after extraction, or if the socket is larger than the titanium fixture, bone grafting is used to build the site up.
The residual gap is filled with bovine bone minerals to thicken the bone. A gum graft may be recommended for thin, transparent or dark gums — thickening the tissue and improving its resistance. Wherever possible we address this during a single visit to our Shepperton dental practice, because these treatments cannot be undone easily.
